Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite

Recently I have been sleeping like a log. All of the fresh air, hard work and exercise makes it really hard to fall asleep and especially wake up early in the morning. As a result I have been having crazy dreams and nightmares. The other night I had a creepy and scary dream, and last night it was a strange and frustrating one. In my opinion there are three events that occur in a dream that I truly hate.
1) When you try as hard as you can to run away from something as fast as possible, instead you either do not move or go as slow as a snail.
2) When you try to open your eyes to see something and your eyes just won't open. This one happens all the time. Frustrating.
3) Getting attacked by spiders. You may laugh but I absolutely hate spiders and for some reason I often get killed and attacked.

In my dream last night I was with my parents walking around Davis chewing gum. Then the gum sticks to my teeth and I can not talk or get it off. I am walking around trying to get this gum out of my mouth and off my teeth. We run into some friends of my dad and the whole time I have my fingers in my mouth trying to take this gum out so I can talk. So this one now goes up as #4 on the list of events that occur in my dreams that I truly hate.

Igor It's Alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have officially decided that my water bottle is a dangerous weapon of mass destruction. Over spring break I had my bag filled with all of my tutoring books, papers, wallet and most importantly my very expensive TI-89 Graphing calculator. I did not close the cap to my water bottle super super tight and it leaked all over my purse destroying my calculator.

Atomic bomb number #2. While I was out one night with Chelsea and some friends I come home, slightly intoxicated to hear a weird noise coming from my room. I open my door to find my computer standing horizontally leaning against a fan on the floor. While I was away Lisa decided to use my printer and in the process spilled that same water bottle all over my computer. Luckily, After drying it out for a day or two my computer turned back on and worked perfectly. In fact it is the same computer I am using right now.

Now we come to nuclear blast #3. On a perfectly quiet afternoon I am sitting at home watching TV (BSG season1) I receive a phone call from my friend Amal (Whom I have not talked to before she gave birth a few weeks ago). I go into my purse to pull out my phone and it is dripping with water. My heartbeat stops as I pull the contents out of my bag
-wallet- drenched completely the receipts inside have turned to mush
-pens- wet
-I pod- soaked along with the headphones
-Water bottle- empty, the tool of Satan to cause death and destruction of any and everything in Brystal's life

So I emptied the contents of the purse to dry and placed my I pod along with headphones under the blast of a fan for the day to dry. After consulting with Karen she told me to instead put them in a bag of rice to dry. When I returned home from my grandmother's last night I tried turning on my ipod and nothing, no lights, no power, nothing. Then I tried to plug it into my computer and see if anyting happened. Still nothing. I was saddened. My little green friend had been with me through many great runs, adventures around the world, to the gym, on road trips across California and most of all was with me at every moment of every day in case I was suddenly stricken with boredom. Alas this long time friend was dead. I had plans to hold a funeral service for it tonight.

Until....

This morning I wake up not to my alarm, but my computer making all sorts of strange sounds and signal beeps informing me of a malfunction of sorts. I wake up, crawl out of my most comfortable bed. Wipe my eyes, and open my computer. Upon opening I saw I tunes was open, and was beeping angrily about not having connection to the itunes store. Then I look to my right and there on the table is my ipod flashing saying "Good morning Brystal I am still alive, I love you, and look! I am connected, eject before disconnecting."

Needless to say I will no longer be having a funeral today. It is fully functioning and working. Today is one of the greatest moments in electronic history.

As for the criminal, I will no longer be needing his services. I will move on to another water bottle. One that does not trick you to believe he is completely closed and sealed.

Battlestars and Trees.

So today it is currently 102 degrees outside. This morning I drove down to my Ohma's (Grandma's) house in Lodi. I rode my horse, laid out fly traps, bathed horses then came inside to clean her train wreck of a house. Then I sit down to finish disk three of the first season of Battlestar Galactica. Yes, I know, super nerdy. However, it is starting to grow on me. All of the people in my lab including the professor are huge Battlestar fans and are determined to make everyone else fans. Since I have had nothing better to do after work, and have seen most of the DVDs that are out I started watching the series. Yesterday when I told a few of the guys they got super excited. They started talking about the show, and made it my mission to watch all four seasons. I totally went up on their coolness factor. Sadly, I think I became a bigger nerd. Oh well, that's the name of my blog anyhow.

Then at lunch with the lab one of the guys started discussing how he was working on one of his fictional novels again. The character is name Jared the Tree Boy. Half tree, half boy. He has leaves for hair, can photosynthesize and farts oxygen. Somehow he saves the day by farting. The details are yet to be determined and was the topic of the discussion. The origin of the boy is also questionable. How does one become part tree, part boy? Maybe his father was a gardener. All I know is that Matt said all this with such seriousness. I however was crying with laughter. I am constantly entertained daily by the characters I work with.

Survey of the Day.

What do you associate with the game Canasta?

a) Coolest game ever, rocks my socks!
b) Never heard of it, is it like the capture of Canada?
c) Definitely old ladies, dentures, wigs and moo moos!
d) Vegas baby!

my response...
c)
My grandma always plays this game with her girlfriends. I picture then sitting around the table smoking shuffling giant decks of cards. The clink clink clink of their old gold and topaz stone rings.

(note: Picture was from google. This woman is in no way related to me. Those glasses are awesome!!)

Longing to be somewhere other than the here and now.

So for the last week I have been trying to plan a weekend to go home to Riverside. After corresponding with the parental units and looking over schedules it looks like August 13th-16th seems to be the only good weekend. My mom unfortunately will be in Minnesota visiting family and my sister will be back at school. So it looks as though it will be a weekend with just the Pop's. I am excited it will be three days of War Craft, Age of Mythology, tv and not cooking. We will be able to play video games guilt free without the incest nagging of mom. Plus I will have full access to her automobile to go down to the OC to visit friends, and maybe my dad will go with me to get my tattoo.

I finally was able to talk on the phone to Chels today. Oh how I missed that Ho. I mean my life is truly not complete without her in my life. I really have missed our daily decompressions, random adventures and all the classes we had together.

One plus to being the only one in the appartment I don't have to worry about cleaning up after myself. I still am a clean freak and all but for the first time I can leave all my make up and hair tool all over the sink and not worry about it being in other peoples way. I also don't have to get dressed. I could totally walk around naked and no one would know or care. But that just feels wierd so I stick to a robe. Also, I can sleep with the bedroom door open and not have to worry about being woken up by loud people... But still, living alone is not as fun as living with your best friends.

Texts from last night

Here are some great quotes I stumbled upon from Texts from last night blog

"so I was just driving high and I stopped to let a pinecone cross the road because I thought it was a hedgehog."

"hey this is lauren, i have to type for jon because he's convinced the tongs he's holding are his real hands"

(434): why are there goldfish crackers all over my bed?
(540): you decided you wanted to name them & keep them as pets.

(508): awoke with 47 plastic lawn flamingos in my bed and on surrounding floor. explanation?
(1-508): you said they were your minions of evil that protected you from ferrets.

(402): lol whn u cming hre I nd 2 c ur fce
(1-402): IF YOU TEXT ME ONE MORE SHORTENED VERSION OF A WORD, THE ONLY THING YOU'LL SEE IS MY FIST IN YOUR FACE.

The Gayest Straight Men I know

Everyday I am constantly amused of the events and conversations that take place in the lab.

First of all, if I would have bumped into some of the guys I work with on the street I would never expect them to be such extreme nerds. They all are good looking, good dressing guys. Until closer examination you do not find that they have all seen all seasons of Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Chuck and some other super nerdy SiFi network shows. Not to mention the fact that three of them are making a road trip to San Diego for Comic Conn next week.

Second, today Derrick and I were asked to accompany Matt to carry back new lab supplies. Just as we leave the door I see Matt brings out these re-useable blue shopping bags. I started laughing. To make it even better he hands one off to me and then takes one himself, throws it over his shoulder like a purse and proceeds down the hallway. Carrying it exactly how I carry a purse. I can't stop laughing. He was serious, and didn't understand how Gay he looked walking down the hallway with a bright blue purse. Then to make it even better we get to the supply room and what he thought was going to need two bags was all pre packaged into a nice box. He responds in a serious monotone "Man, I am seriously disappointed; I wanted to be able to pick out the colors I wanted." I laugh again at him realizing how absolutely gay he sounded again.

Then we get back to lab and the whole lab goes over to ohh and ahh at the new projector that came in. We seriously get the hook ups. Every week the Prof. bakes or cooks for the lab. We have an espresso machine with all the coffee and espresso provided. The place is also hooked up with top of the line Mac Computers and we are now going to get wireless speakers to accompany the new projector.

Hmm.

This summer is starting to pick up. I am working in the lab everyday and loving it. It is so laid back and the people are fun. Here is a little picture the parasite that I do research on.

Along with research I have started babysitting a 3 year old adorable girl, a cute 3 month baby boy and an 11 year old.

Yesterday I went to the mall with my friend Karen. I am a Sephoraholic. I have realized that I can not go to a mall without going to Sephora and proceeding to purchase something. Yesterday I bought moisturizer, foundation and powder. I am excited about it. I have been cheap and buying foundation from target lately and nothing compares to the bare esentuals mineral foundation from Sephora. I mean this stuff is truly incredible it matches my skin perfectly. It is light, doesn’t clog my pores and it stays perfect all day. Oh there is nothing like a little shop therapy to make my day.

out with the old

Since school ended last month I have been itching to move to our new appartment. We don't officially get the keys till August 24th which is over a month away. I walk through my appartment on a daily basis and keep thinking about how truly dreadful the moving process will be. I have to down size my stuff in order to share a room. Then we have a bunch of fruniture we will not being taking with and have to move and get rid of. Then there is the process of painting all the walls that we insisted on painting. My room is the most dreded paint job of all I have three walls I am going to have to first sand, prime and then paint. I was stupid and decided to use a semi gloss lime green paint. That was the most stupid decision I think I have made in my life. Then I came home to a disaster of an appartment on monday and have slowly but surley been cleaning a little at a time.

Today I feel a little more accomplished. I had the sudden urge to search for my War Craft game disks because I hid them from myself and have been unable to find. Instead of finding the disks I started cleaning out my closet, desk and all my boxes full of school stuff that have accumulated over the last four years. It is amazing how much crap I kept. I had 4 boxes of miscelaneous notes, books, pictures and paper. I was able to consolodate and trash 4 bags of stuff. Not to mention organize 2 boxes for long term storage to take to my grandmas until I have my own appartment and pack another box of stuff to take to the new place. My desk is no longer covered in books and papers. Instead it has the remaining essentials for the summer and a bunch of docum
ents that have to be shredded before being disposed.

Note to self- purchase a paper shredder.

Summer is officially here

Well it is already Wednesday. This week has flown by. I am really excited to fly home for the weekend tomorrow. This is a record, three weekends in a row being at home with the family. We are having a big reunion and party all weekend.

It's finally official, my best friend has finally tied the knot after a 3 1/2 year relatioinship with Mr. Fullman. It was such a beautiful and fun wedding. I had so much fun with the entire bridal party. The photographer was amazing, the food and dancing were also good. But my all time favorite moment was decorating the car. Here are some photos show what we did.
